Vehicle breakdown policy

The steps Blue Bird Travels follows when a confirmed vehicle develops a fault before or during a journey.

Important

Roadside response and replacement timing depend on location and availability. Passenger safety remains the first priority.

Safety comes first

If a vehicle develops a mechanical or electrical fault, the driver will prioritise a safe stopping position and passenger safety. Follow the driver’s instructions, remain away from moving traffic and do not attempt a repair.

Report and assess the issue

The driver will contact the operations team and describe the location, symptoms and passenger situation. The team will assess whether the vehicle can continue safely, requires roadside assistance or must be replaced.

Assistance or alternative transport

Blue Bird Travels will make reasonable efforts to arrange repair support or an available alternative vehicle. The response time and replacement category depend on location, time, road access, passenger count and nearby availability.

An alternative may differ in model or amenities while still being suitable for the remaining journey. The team will communicate the available option as soon as reasonably possible.

Delays and communication

Breakdowns can cause unavoidable delay. The team will share material updates through the booking contact where possible, but cannot guarantee an exact recovery or arrival time before the issue and local availability are assessed.

If the journey cannot be completed

If Blue Bird Travels cannot provide a reasonable alternative and the confirmed service remains partly unprovided, the team will review the unused portion and payments received. Any refund or adjustment will consider the service already completed and the journey-specific booking terms.

Indirect losses, missed connections or consequential expenses are not covered except where applicable law requires otherwise.

Events outside reasonable control

A breakdown policy is distinct from delays caused by traffic, road closures, accidents involving third parties, severe weather, civil disruption, government action or another event outside reasonable control. The team will still assist with communication and practical options where possible.

What passengers should do

  • Follow safety directions from the driver or emergency services.
  • Keep the group together in a safe location where practical.
  • Use the confirmed booking contact for updates and escalation.
  • Do not arrange repairs, move the vehicle or incur costs on Blue Bird Travels’ behalf without approval.
  • Keep receipts and written approval for any expense the team has expressly agreed to reimburse.
